The Super Bowl Eve event was headlined by a pair of heavyweight showdowns. In the main event, former UFC champ Tim Sylvia faced former PRIDE title holder Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira for the Interim UFC Heavyweight Championship. The event also featured former NCAA champion and professional wrestler Brock Lesnar’s octagon debut against former UFC champion Frank Mir. Nate Marquardt versus Jeremy Horn, Ricardo Almeida versus Rob Yundt, and Gleison Tibau versus Tyson Griffin were also featured during the PPV broadcast.

In undercard action Chris Lytle faced UFC newcomer Kyle Bradley, Tim Boetsch made his UFC debut against David Heath, Terry Martin took on Marvin Eastman, and Keita Nakamura went toe-to-toe with Rob Emerson.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira def. Tim Sylvia via submission - Round 3
Heavyweight Championship Bout

Round 1: Both fighters find their range early. Nogueira lands good leg kicks before Tim lands a solid punch. Nogueira goes for a takedown but Sylvia winds up on top in half guard but is unable to do anything with the position and they return to their feet. Nogueira connects with a good right. Sylvia answers with an uppercut then lands a combination hurts Nogueira and sends him to the ground. Sylvia takes top position and pounds away before he allows Nogueira to stand back up. He again connects with a good combination and they go back to the ground momentarily before Sylvia allows Nogueira up again. Nogueira now appears fully recovered from the barrage and shoots for a takedown. Sylvia stuffs it but Nogueira quickly fires back with a good combination. They trade hard punches back-and-forth before Nogueira gets a takedown as the round concludes. UFCDaily.com scores the round 10-9 Sylvia.

Round 2: Nogueira’s cut now patched they again feel eachother out to open the frame. Sylvia connects on a combo and stuffs a Nogueira takedown attempt. They go back-and-forth with Sylvia doing the majority of the damage. Sylvia stuffs another attempted takedown. They continue to trade strikes with neither inflicting major damage. Nogueira works long and hard for a takedown but Syvia defends well and keeps the fight standing. Sylvia connects with a good right but Nogueira follows up with a hard left hook. They trade mild combinations to end the round. UFCDaily.com scores the round 10-9 Sylvia.

Round 3: Nogueira lands a good kick to open the round but Sylvia continues to stuff his attempted takedowns. Nogueira pulls guard and is quickly able to flip Sylvia over and take side control. Nogueira quickly secures a guillotine and Sylvia taps out.

Frank Mir def. Brock Lesnar via submission - Round 1

Round 1: Mir quickly goes for a kick but Lesnar drops him to the ground. He starts pummeling on Mir but hits him in the back of the head and the fight is temporarily halted to give Mir a chance to recover. A point is deducted from Lesnar but they quickly restart and Lesnar nails Mir. They go to the ground and Lesnar nearly stops the fight with ground and pound but Mir recovers. Working submissions, Mir looks several times for an armbar before Lesnar leaves himself vulnerable and Mir secures a fight-ending kneebar that forces Lesnar to tap out.

Frank Mir defeats Brock Lesnar via submission (kneebar) - Round 1, 1:30

Nate Marquardt def. Jeremy Horn via submission - Round 2

Round 1: They clinch early and Marquart gets the takedown. Horn absorbs several big punches on the ground but they’re returned to their feet after Marquardt stands up. Horn looks for a takedown but Marquardt ends up on top. Horn defends his ground position well and they’re back on their feet. Horn again looks for a takedown but Marquardt connects with a good combination that hurts Horn and knocks his mouthpiece out. On the ground, Horn is able to regain his composure and lands several good upkicks from the bottom. Horn works gogoplata and omoplata attempts late in the round but Marquardt scrambles away allowing Horn to return to his knees as the horn sounds on round 1. Round 2: They immediately head to the ground with horn on top in Marquardt’s guard. Horn works ground and pound cutting Marquardt near his eye but Marquardt pushes away and springs to his feet. Marquardt immediately gets a standing guillotine the forces Horn to tap.

Ricardo Almeida def. Rob Yundt via submission - Round 1

Round 1: Almeida immediately gets a takedown to open the first round and quickly secures a guillotine. Yundt tries to slam out of the move but it’s too tight and Almeida quickly secures the submission victory.

Tyson Griffin def. Gleison Tibau via unanimous decision

Round 1: Griffin lands several good inside leg kicks and solid rights to start the fight. Tibau counters with solid punches of his own but Griffin counters with another leg kick and punch. Griffin lands a good body shot then they clinch. Tibau works for a takedown and tosses Griffin to the ground but they’re quickly back to their feet and separate. Griffin lands a big body kick and then they go back-and-forth with a flurry of punches. Tibau shoots in between the shots and gets a takedown but Griffin powers back to his feet. Clinched against the cage Griffin works for a takedown but Tibau reverses to get the takedown. Griffin again powers back to his feet to finish the round. UFCDaily.com scores the round 10-9 Griffin.

Round 2: They clinch early in the second round but neither can gain momentum and they separate. They trade another big series of strikes with both connecting before Tibau secures a takedown but Griffin again escapes back to his feet. Griffin lands several good kicks followed by a right. Tibau counters and Griffin misses with a big attempt. Tibau again gets a takedown but Griffin is easily able to return to his feed. UFCDaily.com scores the round 10-9 Griffin.

Round 3: Tibau lands several good shots early in the final round and is able to get yet-another takedown. This time they remain on the ground and Tibau is able to control Griffin momentarily landing a handful of solid strikes. Griffin lands a good body shot before Tibau gets another takedown. Griffin escapes and lands another hard body shot. They clinch against the fence and Griffin throws foot stomps while working for a late-takedown. Tibau works off the fence and looks for a takedown of his own but they break and both throw shots to end the fight. UFCDaily.com scores the round 10-9 Griffin.

Chris Lytle def. Kyle Bradley via TKO - Round 1

Round 1: Lytle lands back-to-back right hooks nearly immediately and follows it up with another. Bradley covers up on the ground but Lytle pounces and lands several more shots before the fight is stopped.

Tim Boetsch def. David Heath via TKO - Round 1

Round 1: After the go back-and-forth early with strikes Boetsch connects with a right that stuns Heath. Looking to finish the fight Boetsch pushes forward and continues to strike but Heath is able to return to his feet and connects with a solid shot. As the first round winds down Boetsch lands a series of punches that force referee Herb Dean to stop the contest.

Marvin Eastman def. Terry Martin via unanimous decision

Round 1: Eastman shoots for a takedown but Martin reversed and instead took Eastman down. They quickly return to their feet and clinched on-and-off for the remainder of the opening frame. UFCDaily.com scores the round 10-9 Martin.

Round 2: Both fighters swing and miss to open round two before clinching yet again. Martin connects with several solid shots before they’re separated. Eastman lands a decent combo before they again clinch and are separated. They both throw punches off the restart but clinch again. This time Eastman is able to trip Martin to the ground before the second round ends. UFCDaily.com scores the round 10-9 Eastman.

Round 3: They clinch early before Eastman gets a takedown. After Eastman landed a couple ground strikes Martin worked back to his feet. Eastman lands a late series of strikes that includes a good right knee before the final round ends. UFCDaily.com scores the round 10-9 Eastman.

Marvin Eastman defeats Terry Martin via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Rob Emerson def. Keita Nakamura via split decision

Round 1: Emerson and Nakamura stay standing and trade kicks and jabs for the majority of the opening round. After going back-and-forth to start Emerson connects with a solid hook followed by a series of good kicks. Nakamura comes back strong and lands a knee to Emerson’s face though he recovers quickly from the solid strike. UFCDaily.com scores the round 10-9 Emerson.

Round 2: Emerson continues the kicks to start the second round. The offense continues from Emerson who sets up several solid rights with the kicks as the round wears on. Nakamura finally gets a takedown late in the round but Emerson gets back to his feet and continues with effective strikes. UFCDaily.com scores the round 10-9 Emerson.

Round 3: Nakamura secures an early takedown to start the final round but Emerson is again able to work back to his feet. Emerson again lands kick-punch combinations but Namakura is able to strike back landing several good knees and punches. Emerson appears to be getting the better of Nakamura yet again but the Japanese fighter starts to land some solid strikes before securing a late-takedown.
